Hashem says: "Do not blame Me because you are unhappy"

Eretz Israel was a land of not only Zavat Chalav U'devash,

of all good things, also Arim Gedelot Vetovot Asher Lo Banita, they had large, beautiful homes, they had wells…

they had everything, and it was for this that Hashem took them through the Midbar.

When you are traveling toward a place of happiness, if you say that Hashem is punishing you for your sins – that is called 'Nirganut'. And in our times too, if someone is despondent and says "I'm no good; that's why I have no Mazal; that’s why everything is a failure for me; that’s why I'm unhappy; Hashem is punishing me for my sins" – this person is a Nirgan.

Hashem said: do not blame me for the fact that you are unhappy – it is only because you don’t appreciate what I am giving you.

There shouldn’t be a day of unhappiness.

It is easier for people to travel in the 'low way; and to use their Seichel Hayashar; and the truth is that there is no reason to be unhappy in this world.

If, Chas Veshalom, a person is at the end of his life, and he has done many wrong things and has failed to do good things, then he should worry. Still, even then it is possible to encourage him to thank Hakadosh Baruch Hu that he has lived so long – no matter

how long it was – and thank Hashem in retrospect.

Thanking Hashem even for what is in the past is a very good Avodat Hashem.

We can look back on how many years we ate breakfast and supper, how many years we slept a good night's sleep. We have to thank Hashem for that – it will make us better people, happy.

We say Bechol Nafshecha, love Hashem with all your life, and it means -  Afilu Besha'ah Shenoteil Nafshacha – even when you are about to die.

If you love Hashem at that time, it is a big Zechut. It is a tremendous thing to die in the right way, and to say Vidui. But the best thing is for a person to change right away, when he is younger, before he has to say Vidui. Don’t waste any more time.

Get busy understanding how fortunate you are in this world; there shouldn’t be a day of unhappiness.

In the midst of the celebration, the king stood up and spoke to his son, "Since I am an astrologer, I can see from the stars that in the future you are going to lose the monarchy, and when that happens, I want you to be very careful not to fall into depression. Rather, you must force yourself to remain happy. And if you do succeed in remaining happy, then I will also be happy. In fact, even if you become depressed, I will still be happy. I will be happy that you are no longer king. For if you can not remain happy despite losing the kingship, that will be a sign that you were not worthy of being king. But if you do manage to remain happy, then I will be very happy indeed."

Hi all, you know, I went to speak to a Dr today about the possiblity of going on anti depressant meds.  During the conversation, I realized that I am not really that sad anymore, since I have started learning about emuna and Rabbeinu's zy'a teachings b'H.  Sometimes when one tells themself that they are sad, they can start feeling sad... Its a funny thing, how powerful words are.  We ought to be careful about what we say to ourselves and to others, because it really does effect the way we perceive our reality - big time.  Smile

Dear Aaron,
Thank you so much for sharing with us such very very wondrous news!  It certainly brought to mind the story of the sixth beggar, the story of the beggar without hands, from the Tale of the Seven Beggars [Rebbe Nachman] - the beggar who will heal us through the 10 melodies.
We have much to be grateful for, that you find the knowledge, will and energies to share so much of your Torah learning with us.  Beezrat Hashem may you continue learning Torah, and the teachings of Rabbenu, and may you continue sharing your learning and too your beautiful insights with other Jews.  And may your holy efforts be blessed with His Abundance, may you know healing and joy and continuous ascent, may your prayers be fulfilled speedily and with much joy,  may you have more and more great news to share with us!
May you and all Am Yisrael be blessed with the final redemption and may it be delivered through song and love,
Shabbat shalom and again, thank you!

thats interesting...so is that a metaphor for everything we have in life?  if we are not happy when we lose something, than we never should have had it to begin with??? or is this specific to the "kingship"? cause otherwise it would imply that we should be happy with or without everything...that our happiness should never rely on what we have, cause it could be lost and then we no longer would be happy...

Perhaps the ideal being expressed here is that one's happiness should not be dependent upon anything tangible, rather it should be related to the source of happiness - Hashem himself?

If we believe that Hashem exists = emuna, and we believe and trust that everything Hashem does is for our own good and for the best etc. and that one day if not now, we will understand how this is all so etc., then seemingly one should be happy with this awareness.

Yet our Sages also taught that a man without a woman has no blessing, no joy, no Shechinah, no wall etc.  He also does not complete the Divine Image, since the Divine Image is comprised of both male and female.

Our great Tzadik Rebbe Nachman ztzk"l taught (in L"M 2, 10):

"The ONLY reason people R distant from Hashem and R not interested in spirituality is that they do not have Yishuv Ha'Da'at (mental calm).

When a person is depressed, he cannot control his mind (Mochin) enough 2 attain that serenity (of the mind); therefore, one MUST always seek joy"

The 'Ba'al Shem Tov' ZT"L arrived 2 a jewish village that all of its people were making their Parnasa (living) from growing crops.

It was mid summer & the land was dry. It's been long since it rained last, and the people of the village were despret. There was no money coming and no food.

The people were Yir'ey Shamayim & they started doing Teshuvah. They seeked one "Magid Mussar" 2 come and give them some Divrei Torah & Mussar.

His words were so deep that they were all sobbing.

The 'Ba'al Shem-Tov' was present and witnessed the poor people sobbing.

He raised his voice towards the Magid: "Why R U scolding these poor people like that? They R good people"!

The 'Ba'al Shem-Tov' said 2 the people: "lets go outside, lets dance and after Minchah the rain will come"

At first they all looked at the 'Ba'al Shem-Tov' as if he was out of his mind, but after he repeated his words, they all agreed 2 come out and dance with him.

While they were dancing, it became cloudy, and clouds full of rain were filling the sky… Much needed rain was purring.

All because of their Simcha & Emunah that Boreh Olam will orchestrate everything in accord with the greatest revealed good & chesed…

May we merit 2 B Ba'al Emunah Peshuta in Hashem and ALWAYS B'simchah

Neshama - As always, thanks for your divrei Torah, your words that wake and inspire us all!
This is a great story - the Holy Baal Shem Tov taught that EVERY Jew, no matter his social/economic standing or level of Torah scholarship is a precious jewel, that every Jew has a unique 'contribution' to give to this world and so EVERY Jew is special, has something no other Jew has to offer, has his own unique nigun to sing if only we would listen....
The Holy Baal Shem Tov revealed that a Jew can go beyond the "luck" set by "nature" if he attaches himself to emunah, and therefore the 'simple Jews' dancing and singing with love for Hashem drew down rains from a 'rainless' sky....
Neshama, thanks so much for sharing this beloved story with us.  Rebbe Nachman reveals the true strength of the tales of the Tzaddikim, that others tell stories to put one to sleep, and the Jew tells stories to wake the Jewish neshama...

O give thanks unto the LORD, call upon His name; make known His doings among the peoples.  Sing unto Him, sing praises unto Him; speak ye of all His marvellous works.  Glory ye in His holy name; let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.  Seek ye the LORD and His strength; seek His face continually.  Remember His marvellous works that He hath done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth

I'm Hoping everybody is well & I wish U ALL True Simchah in good health.

I think that I recall reading something like this in Likutei Moharan as well.  I will see if I can find the source b'n.
