Pinchas

Pinchas, the Kohen Gadol (High Priest), was the grandson of Aharon HaKohen, and the son of Elazar. His mother was descended from Yosef and Yitro.

Pinchas was made a Kohen Godol in his own right, following the killing of Zimri and Kozbi, the Midianite woman with whom he consorted publicly. As a result the plague which God had sent to punish the Jewish people for immorality ceased.
