Rabbi Yekutiel – The Maggid of Terhovitza

Rabbi Yekutiel was one of Rebbe Nachman's most devoted followers. He was a prominent Chassidic leader, a disciple of the Maggid of Mezritch, and had authority of over eighty-four towns and villages.

Rabbi Yekutiel was among those asked to give their approbation to the Chassidic siddur, edited by Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of the Chabad movement. He was a lifelong friend of Rabbi Nachum of Tchernoble. It is said that every Shavuot, even when they were old, the two of them would dance together the entire night.

Rabbi Yekutiel was already advanced in years by the time Rebbe Nachman was becoming known. However, he submitted himself to Rebbe Nachman's leadership more completely than any of the other leading Chassidic leaders of the time. Rabbi Yekutiel influenced many of his own followers to submit themselves to Rebbe Nachman, notably his own son-in-law, who was a notable scholar in his own right.

Rabbi Yekutiel was renowned as a wonderful singer. The tunes sung by Breslovers throughout the world on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur were, for the most part, introduced by Rabbi Yekutiel.

The exact date of Rabbi Yekutiel's death is unknown, but it was certainly after Rebbe Nachman's. Rabbi Yekutiel was once at the Rebbe's graveside and was heard singing each of the Ten Psalms that comprise Tikkun Haklali with a different melody.
