Hardboiled Eggs, Part 7

Hey, Jerry – didn’t Old Isaac tell me that you were a Green Beret in Vietnam?
Weren’t you trained in shooting and hand-to-hand combat? You could kill with just you palm"

Jerry blushed. He never talked about his military background. Nevertheless, he answered politely,
"Guilty on all three counts, Mr. Weatherbee, but I don’t talk about it lightly”

"Listen, Jerry: I’m willing to pay any amount you ask…"
If you could carry out just one small and simple task.

Jerry couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Kind Mr. Weatherbee taking out a contract
on Dwayne Hodges, the suspected thief! Wow, this man must have cracked!

Jerry mumbled, "You’re trying to hire me as a hit man? Has the world gone mad?
Have I been hit on the head? Are you all right, Mr. Weatherbee? This is really bad!"

In a gush of uncontrollable emotion, Willy poured out his troubled heart,
and told Jerry all about the missing eggs story and didn’t leave out one part

Jerry felt so terrible; this man’s anger is taking up all his energy reserves
So he put his arm around him and tried to calm his baffled nerves

To be continued.
