The feathered onlookers
Chirped with delight
To see such a show
Of a deer in full flight
"Zachary’s gonna lose!"
One magpie whined.
After the first mile
He was way behind.
Two grayish crows cawed
"Come place your bets!"
The squirrels gambled their acorns
With no regrets.
"Eight to one odds,"
Called the bookie crow
"Dandy’s gonna win
This we all know!"
