The Boastful Buck – Part 17
Like shots of a rifle
Snap! Pop! And crack!
Dandy’s antlers hit trees
But they fought back.
The hickory and oaks
Side by side
Whacked the buck’s antlers
Which were four feet wide.
The trail now narrowed
To two feet wide
Dandy’s antlers were cracking
And so was his pride
He cringed at the pain
And ducked his head
But a branch slapped his flank
And his face turned bright red.
Dandy’s antlers were cracking, and so was his pride…
