Little Nachman – Part 16

A Gift for a Good Friend

The first time Shimon came to visit Nachman, he received a warm greeting from both Nachman and Nachman’s mother. She said, "Dear Shimon, you are a welcome guest in our home; we are very happy that you came."

When Shimon went into Nachman’s room, he saw that Nachman had quite a few toys. Shimon asked, "Nachman, do you play with all these toys?"

"Not really," answered Nachman. "Most of the time, I’m either learning Torah or praying. When I’m not learning or praying, I help my mother and father around the house. I don’t have much time left to play with toys."

"I barely have any toys at home," said Shimon. "I also try my best to help my parents and to learn and pray as much as I can."

Nachman sensed that Shimon was sorry that he didn’t have any toys, so he went into the kitchen and whispered to his mother: "Mama, I have so many toys and games, but my friend Shimon doesn’t; maybe we can give him a toy or a game as a gift?"

"Certainly, with pleasure," answered Nachman’s mother with a warm smile.

Shimon asked, "Nachman, do you play with all these toys?"

To be continued, G-d willing.
