Rabbi Dov Ber – The Maggid of Mezritch

(1704 – 1772) The Mezritcher Maggid was the main leader of the Chassidic movement after the Baal Shem Tov died in 1760. Virtually all the Chassidic masters of that generation were his disciples.

Rabbi Dov Ber came studied under Rabbi Yaakov Yehoshuah Falk, author of the P'nei Yehoshuah, and was already an accomplished scholar, both in Talmudic and Kabbalistic studies, by the time he came to the Baal Shem Tov.

Rabbi Dov Ber was lame, and the Baal Shem Tov said that if he could have gone to the mikveh, he would have been able to bring the Mashiach. Rabbi Dov Ber was buried in Anipoli.
