I’m Not Going Back…
Yair Elitzur, musician, is a student of Harav Arush and moderator of Chut shel Chesed's "Question and Answer" (Hebrew) video show. He has released a new single.
Yair Elitzur is a musician and creator who began his journey as a non-religious Jew. He was a member of a band called “Sesame Street”. Just before the release of their debut album, Yair decided that he was leaving everything to be a baal teshuva.
Yair is now a student of Harav Arush. He is the moderator of Chut shel Chesed’s weekly live “Question and Answer with Harav Arush” (Hebrew) video show.
Yair released the single “Rechovot” here has a double meaning – it can refer to the Israeli city of Rechovot, or it can mean “streets“. In his song, both meanings fit.
I want to be righteous, my brother, Foundation of the World
Our Rebbi Nachman will show me
You said you could make me like you
Then, Rabbeinu, come and make me just like you, and without anguish
I want to always be a tzaddik – until 120
I keep praying, and keep waiting here
I am staying in Jerusalem and not going back to the streets
I’m not going back to the streets (4x)
Come, Rebbi, like sheep to the slaughter, I’m here
Cold, and hands tied behind me with handcuffs and into the pit
Rebbi, Light, Rebbi, I will not stop, Rebbi, come and pray for me
I insist that you help me, see my will
I’m not to blame that my father was not the Baal Shem Tov from Mezibuz
Because you said, Rebbi, that it is also possible to be like you if you want, and you wouldn’t lie
I want to be a tzaddik, Foundation of the World
I want to always see you in front of my eyes
I also want to see Rebbi Shimon Bar-Yochai
I want to see you and serve Hashem with happiness because
I want to be a tzaddik, Foundation of the World
Our Rebbi Nachman will show me

Come, Rebbi, this is sweet to me
No, Abba, they’re telling me to come
They are drunk with lust and sleeping pills
They’re like a silly child with a dish of candy
Colorful on the outside, full of poison on the inside
Let me get up early at night
And go there – to the field or in a room
To shout to you that I too I want dominion over all the angels
I’m the King’s son or what my friends call me “imagined”
And they do not understand that I am part of You
I’m not just a son, I’m part of “Elyon”
And if You don’t give to me, then to whom?
Abba, what do I want?
I want to be a tzaddik, my brother, Foundation of the World
Our Rebbi Nachman will show me

I’m sorry, grandmother, I’m sorry, grandmother
You gave me a lot but it’s too hard for me
I’m not going back to the neighborhood, to Edom
Grandmother, I’m not leaving Jerusalem
I’m not going back to the streets (4x)
