Jewgrass – that's Jewish Bluegrass. Listening to the lively sweet strains of hillbilly-style holy brothers is an intravenous infusion of instant joy. The Sinai Mountain Boys, the rising star on the contemporary Jewish music horizon, are the kings of Jewgrass.

Hailing from Silver Spring, Maryland, the Sinai Mountain Boys  are a unique foursome of Orthodox Jewish musicians, combining traditional and original Bluegrass with Chassidic and other Jewish Melodies to create a sound which is very much their own!

It all started a year and a half ago, when Yoni Tyberg on Guitar, playing  a wide variety of Jewish music and Chassidic niggunim, began "jamming" with his father-in-law, Gary Goodman, who plays the 5-string banjo. Gary's banjo playing brought a mix of Bluegrass music to the table, and they decided to take their unique sound a step further. They contacted Michael Singer, an upright-bass player who had much experience with Klezmer Music and other styles. He also happened to live in their neighborhood, so the three subsequently developed a musical bond and friendship.

A short while later, Hashem put the last piece of the puzzle together: Gary's nephew had told him about a local Bluegrass mandolin player, Robbie Zev Ludwick, who also lived in their community and shared their religious beliefs. Yoni, Gary, and Michael invited Robbie over, and a Jewgrass band was born! The following day, Robbie woke up and immediately thought of the name "The Sinai Mountain Boys," which described perfectly who this new band was. Yoni gave Robbie a crash course on Jewish music – which was Yoni's forte – and the two of them struck up a vocal duet that added a whole new dimension to the group's sound.

A favorite in the Mid-Atlantic area for their style of music and performance, The Sinai Mountain Boys have created quite a buzz in just a short time. They can be heard on the new Hungry-For-Music Hanukah CD, have been featured on XM as well as College Radio, and have played for dignitaries including a recent performance honoring Washington D.C. Mayor Fenty. They will be performing on the first night of Chanukah, Dec.4th, at the world famous Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. They are also recording original songs for their upcoming debut Album.

Breslev Israel wishes them tremendous success, and that they may continue to sanctify Hashem's Holy Name as ambassadors of simcha and kedusha (joy and holiness) wherever they play.
