Moshe Rabbeinu hesitated to take Jews out of Mitzrayim (Egypt) because he felt they were not ready for the intensely holy revelation at Mt. Sinai. How can the Jews prepare themselves to receive Hashem's light? The merit of the avot (Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov) and tzaddikim tipped the scale to redeem the Jews.
