The Boastful Buck – Part 21

“Silly Stag!” yelled an owl

“You’ll never learn!

Why not cut off your antlers

And the tides will turn.

But it never occurred

To the boastful young buck

That trimming his antlers

Would bring him good luck.

While continuing to fight

With a maple and a vine

Faithful Old Zachary

Crossed the finish line.

The deer referees

Sent the loser away

Into forced exile

To a place far away

Deer Haven was freed

From the boastful buck’s snare

And the winner Zachary

Said thanks in a prayer.

Faithful Old Zachary crossed the finish line…
