My Slow Scooter

Everyone talks about being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes, we have to be “late” in order to avoid being at the wrong place at the wrong time...

I received this story from a reader:

I brought my scooter in for servicing. The entire repair costed me nine thousand rupees. It was almost like new, and I was enjoying ride on my newly renewed vehicle.

After 10 days, I was rushing at good speed to go to my kids school to pick up my son as it was getting  late.  Suddenly my vehicle was not picking up speed. Even though I was pushing on the accelerator, it was not helping, and was hardly going 20kmph.

suddenly remembered a story from the book Say Thank you and See Miracles, where a guy lost his vehicle and started thanking Hashem, and he got his stolen vehicle back. I applied the same thing in my case.

I started praying, “Thank you, Hashem, for making the speed of my vehicle slow. Thank you, Hashem, for protecting me all these years on this motorbike. Thank you for getting it repaired. Even if I  have to  spend more  money again to get this repaired, I will still thank you. I know that everything comes from Above, so thank you for your judgements.

After driving about 300-400 meters, there was an accident with a 2-wheeler and car… Had I rushed at good speed, maybe I would have been in that place. I thanked Hashem again and continued on at the same slower speed. After couple of hours, I decided to drivto the Mechanic again and see if I could be able to drive normally. This time, the Mechanic looked at my vehicle and said that its normal and it happens sometimes if petrol overflows and nothing to worry.

I will forever thank Hashem for this Miracle!

I LOVE getting stories from people! Please send me yours too! If you don’t have one to send yet, start thanking Hashem every day for 30 minutes, and in no time, you’ll be filling my Inbox with stories too…

This story reminds me of a story of mine. My mom was visiting Israel from the US, and the sad time had come to bring her back to the airport. We were running about 20 minutes late, but I worked really hard to stay calm and remember Harav Arush’s motto: “I was never late in my life.” That is to say – you arrive in Hashem’s time, on time!

We finally got on the road, and I was driving the fastest I could legally and safely. Suddenly, there were red lights ahead, and traffic came to a complete stop! We sat there for a few minutes, and a few more, and suddenly I thought to myself, “I think it’s time for Mizmor L’Todah!” Back then, Rabbi Arush taught that when you need a salvation, to say 7 times Mizmor L’Todah (Chok Todah). Now, he teaches that you should really say it 8 times, since 8 is the number above nature. But back then he said 7, so I started singing Mizmor L’Todah. In the meantime, my mom got on the phone with my husband to see if he could get us information or an alternative route, which I already knew that there was none. By the fourth Mizmor L’Todah, traffic started moving slowly as we passed by the police who had completely stopped all highway traffic. By the time I reached number 7, we were back to driving at top speed!

Within another minute, we reached a gigantic accident, now off to the side of the road. A huge truck had overturned and rolled into the gas station off to the side of the road, even over the fence! There were at least 20 people there, and lots of cars strewn everywhere. The last ambulance was preparing to leave, so we knew there had been injuries. Based on our quick judgment of the situation, my mom and I both guessed that the accident had been – about 20 minutes before.

Now, my mom and I both said Mizmor L’Todah together, thanking Hashem that we were “late” because we quite possibly saved ourselves from being caught in that dangerous accident. We made good time and still got to the airport with only minimal rushing, safe and sound.

I try to remember this story whenever I am running late and I am stressed about it, which is basically all the time. Indeed, there really is no “late” by Hashem  only late by our standards!
