The Bibi Blunder

It's pathetic when the leader of the Jewish homeland attributes our security to a foreign country or to any other flesh-and-blood entity that's no better than a wobbly reed…

I am very proud to have voted for my Prime Minister. Over the past years he has stood down the most powerful nation on earth, often doing it in their own back yard. Boldly he has stood before the entire world and told them they are hypocrites for enabling Iran to build a bomb we all know they will certainly use.

A Bedouin friend of mine pegged it perfectly when he said that politics is just tiny a drop in the sea of life in Israel. My heart breaks for my brothers and sisters abroad who feel so connected to us, but can only experience that connection through a TV or computer screen expressing Israel through the narrow prism of politics. They are denied everything in Israel that makes all of us here extraordinarily happy.

This is why I am so loathe to write about this subject.

In his speech at the UN Mr. Netanyahu stuck it to the world. On behalf of 6 million Israeli Jews, and 2 million Israeli Arabs, Bedouin, Christians, and Druze, he admonished civilization for attempting to commit suicide.

It would have been a perfect moment if not for his colossal misjudgment. In front of the 190-plus nations on earth, he proclaimed that Israel has a true friend that it completely relies on – a friend that deserves the limitless gratitude of the Israeli people. The guarantor of its security, he sang his praises to Israel's real partner:

The United States.

It was a mistake.

We are happy that America is as kind to us as it is. We are glad that in fulfillment of the verse in Genesis that Hashem will bless those who bless us, the United States is the richest, safest, and most powerful nation on earth right now.

We are a nation that dwells alone. Our only ally is our Father, Hashem. He, and He alone protects us. He, and He alone maintains us. He, and He alone sends us countless miracles which have saved us from annihilation – time and time again.

He, and He alone deserves all of the credit.

Let's give our Prime Minster the benefit of the doubt. He said what he said to preserve a practical alliance that has been severely tested these past years. He did what he did because he truly believed it is in the best interests of his nation.

In recognition for his lifetime of sacrifice and service, we should help fix this and repair the damage.

We can make teshuva for our leader by asking forgiveness on his behalf. We can plead for mercy for being a nation that instinctively turns to our political leaders, or the political leaders of other nations – and not Hashem – as the cause, and the solution for all of our problems. We can tell Hashem that we know it is Him, and Him Alone who has performed countless miracles for us in the last war, in the current wave of terror, and in the tribulations we face individually, and as a people each day.

We can double our efforts to trust in Him, and Him alone. In the merit of re-establishing Hashem as our True King, we can reread Rav Arush's Garden of Emuna.

Whether or not the alliance with America is mended, or disintegrates. Whether or not Russia, Syria, Hezbollah, Iraq, and Iran deploy 150,000 or 150,000,000 troops along our northern border, we are not afraid because You and You alone are protecting us. This is all we need. It is all we will ever need.

Please petition our King right away and make your voice felt. Ask our Father, our Protector, the Guarantor of our continued existence and perseverance, that with His help, we thrive.

Tell us what you think!
